Fenugreek Curd Hair Mask {Reader's Tip}

Thanks Sonal for the wonderful tip :)

"The curd- methi powder mask works wonders for hair! Take 2 tsp of methi powder in a bowl of curd. Apply it on hair, wear a shower cap and wait for 45 mins. Wash it properly with ample water, a little messy & sticky but good for hair. Instead of shampooing right after, apply oil and wash it off the next morning :)"

Home Remedies for Hair Growth {DIY}

[Source:she.sulekha.com]
Yesterday, I talked about some of the tips to start taking care of your hair. And, I had said that I shall share some of the home remedies which have helped my hair tremendously in certain number of years. So, lets start on.

Fenugreek Seeds
[Source:asia.ru]
Yes, the methi or fenugreek seeds about which I talked almost when I started my blog. That was one remedy which helped my hair fall and I guess it did help in a little in improving the hair texture but since I am so lazy, I had discontinued the remedy. I guess its time to start again!!

Egg
As always, I swear by this remedy. Applying egg on my hair weekly has helped my hair a lot and if not in hair growth, it has definitely helped to keep my hair soft, silky and shiny and strong too. But, the downside of the remedy is the smell which even I can't bear so I have not used egg on my hair since quite long.

Yogurt
This was advised to me by one of my friends who was advised by an acquaintance. The said acquaintance used to douse her hair in yogurt everyday and wash it off (not shampoo but only plain water rinse) and used to shampoo her hair once a week. This was the routine in vacations but I do admit that she must have smelt bad!!! But, the remedy and the hard work paid off and her tresses were very beautiful and long.

Well, I did use the remedy and not quite in the same way but I used to keep curd / yogurt in my hair for 1-4 hours a stretch and wash it off with a shampoo. Over a period of time, my hair texture did improve a lot. And, here I am guessing, that it did improve my hair volume too. But, I am not quite sure on that count.

Onion Juice
This is something I swear by again and it is one of the top rated of my posts in all time. I know!!! And, yes, onion juice helps a lot in hair growth itself. But, yes, it gives a very foul smell which is why I get discouraged to use the remedy but the results are too obvious.

The reason why onion works is because of its richness in sulphur, one of the main minerals required for hair growth.  don't know if it will cover a bald spot but yes, it will definitely revive the hair follicles if they have been dormant too long. A very difficult remedy to use, though :(

Tomato
Again, one of my few first posts on the blog, it had helped to restore my sunburnt and extremely damaged hair to a decent condition. Tomato gives a lot of shine to the hair and also helps with dandruff as it is a little acidic but not as acidic as lemon to leave the hair entirely dry!!!

These are the remedies which have helped my hair a lot overtime.

Don't try any new product before your wedding {Bridal Files}

This is something which came to my mind after reading Tanveer's post. In her words
I once used a oxy-bleach, just a week before my wedding. It was the first time I used a bleach and the last. It caused my face to turn red like I was sun burnt and I spent the next two days just calming my skin back to being normal.
So, just a simple advise -  never try something which you haven't tried out yet. You never know how your skin might react. If you do want to try out something, make sure you have adequate time before so that you can counteract the harmful effects, if any!!!

This applies to all kinds of treatments including facial, hair and body. If you really want to indulge in something luxurious, 'ubtan' is the best bet and has been, traditionally, a part of bridal skin care since centuries.

How to prepare customized Ubtan?
[Source: anindiansmakeupmusings.blogspot.in]
A simple recipe with available ingredients at home:
  • Besan (Chana flour)
  • Turmeric
  • Yogurt
Mix everything in proportion. You can add turmeric up to a table spoon and don't worry about the staining because chana flour takes care of that. Try to make the paste brighter yellow in color. Apply it every night before you go to sleep on the face and neck or you can also go for an entire body application on a day when you are free.
Yogurt removes tan and turmeric helps with blemishes. It does take time to work. Do not add lemon juice as it is quite acidic and may cause skin dryness. You can go for tomato juice, if you wish. Its more gentle. And, essential oils and rose petals add a exotic feel to the mask. So, you might want to get some for your own use.

Hope this helps :)

Classic Face Pack Remembered {DIY}

Ok, so, I am not sharing anything new today. But, just reminding you all of the classic face pack which costs a zilch and the results are far better than any pricy product and this one has the simplest of the ingredients and is an answer to almost all the skin problems.

Ingredients
  • Multani Mitti
  • Curd / Yogurt
Method
Mix them both and apply the pack on the face. Wait for it to dry. It might take long time, though but the wait is worth it. So, try this on a day when you can laze around. In the mean time, keep two chilled tea bags with you and apply them to your eyes and relax. After the mask gets dry, wash it off and rinse your face with green tea (warm or cold, anything).

Results
A really fresh, hydrated and supple skin is revealed. It brightens the complexion in an instant, controls oil production and removes the dead skin cells. Multani mitti is great for oily skin and curd is great for troubled skin. But, this mask doesn't dry the skin at all. But, if you have dry skin, make sure to include honey as a precaution. But, even dry skin people should use clay masks once in a while coz it detoxifies the skin. So, a face pack which answers all the troubles of your skin and this can be done every alternate day by oily, combination and normal skin people and once in a week by dry skin gals (or guys!!!).

A nourishing and moisturizing mask

Well, after playing Holi, you should apply an extremely nourishing mask to avoid the drying of your skin with colors. So, what mask should you apply for that. Definitely, a honey mask would be a good option. But, we can surely improvise on it.

Ingredients:
1 half of a very ripe Banana (mashed)
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon cold / chilled yogurt
5 tablespoon milk cream
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon almond oil
1 teaspoon coconut oil
Method: Blend the egg yolk first into a smooth and frothy paste. Add banana and yogurt to blend again. Then, add honey and milk cream and blend for 5 minutes more. Finally, add the oils and runt he blender for a minute. Your nourishing face mask is ready. This mask also acts as a skin firming and anti-aging mask.
Apply it on your face in a thick layer and settle down. You can put cucumber slices or chilled tea bags on your eyes. Wait for 30 minutes. Remove the mask and wash your face with cold water. Your face would very soft. You can moisturize if you feel the need or apply 1 drop of olive or coconut oil. Preferably, apply this mask at the night and do not put any moisturizer on your face afterward. Your face will be soft in the morning.
For Oily Skin: You can exclude the oils, substitute the milk cream with milk and lemon or tomato juice and the egg yolk with egg white.

Yogurt and Egg to grow long hair

[Source: Google Images]
Egg is one of the best conditioners for our hair. And, massaging hair with egg is one of the best things one can do to grow hair. Egg has lot of protein content which is very useful for the health of our hair. Start massaging egg into your hair for 45 minutes. And, you would see results in as less as a month.

But, many people are averse to the smell of egg and the mess created by using egg. There is an alternative. But, it is no less messy. But, it gives you freedom from the egg odor. Yogurt. Yes, applying yogurt to your hair before washing. Yogurt provides all the nutrients required by our hair and has been touted from centuries to be helpful in hair growth. So, start applying yogurt to your hair from today and see the difference in a month. A better result would noticed if you apply yogurt daily on your hair and wash off without using a shampoo. And, shampooing your hair only twice a week or as usual. I know it would mean having your hair oiled all time and tied down and not being able to style. But, the remedy is worth that sacrifice. And, this can be done at least on the weekends when you are not planning to go anywhere. Trying it once a week also gives fabulous results. Not only does it stimulate hair growth, but also, makes your hair soft, smooth and shiny. It keeps hair moisturized and well hydrated. Yes, you would not need any pre-poo treatment if you are doing this regularly.

If you have read this recipe I had published a while back, you would know that yogurt is one of the ingredients in making a biotin rich drink. This means that applying yogurt is actually giving all those nutrients directly from outside. Not only that, it is pretty useful for people having a blood group of A. Blood type A people have hard time absorbing the B group vitamins. Similar is the case with blood type B people. They have hard time absorbing A group vitamins. And, our hair needs all the B vitamins to stay healthy. So, feed your hair all the healthy vitamins from outside as well as inside. And, do not forget to ingest at least two servings of dairy products daily for a healthy head of hair.

So, which one do you prefer - Eggs or Yogurt? Pin It

A recipe for faster hair growth and beautiful looking skin {DIY}

Today, I will be talking about a drink or a hair conditioner which will encourage more hair growth and make your skin look beautiful all times. Yes, the recipe can be used as both a drink and a conditioner. And, it makes a fabulous conditioner. It makes your hair go glossy and so silky that you would want to touch it again and again.

Recipe:
A blend of banana, yogurt and honey. Yes, I know it sounds yummy and it does taste yummy. And, works even more fabulously. Put it on your face, hair or mouth, you will get its effects any how. The blend is abundant with the nutrient 'Biotin' which is one of the most important vitamin needed to slow down hair loss and it might help in stimulating hair growth. All of the ingredients are individually good for skin and hair. It will make your skin glow with health all day long. You can apply it every day too. Drink it every day to improve your hair.You can add strawberries too. Its rich in anti-oxidants and Vitamin C. And, will help detox your body in a better way.

So, hopefully, you are gonna go to your kitchen right now and blend this smoothie. Have a yummy drink. Note: Eating banana every day does not increase the weight. It only adds to our lack of exercise. So, do not forget to work out even if you are not on the biotin drink.
