Home Remedies for Hair Growth {DIY}

[Source:she.sulekha.com]
Yesterday, I talked about some of the tips to start taking care of your hair. And, I had said that I shall share some of the home remedies which have helped my hair tremendously in certain number of years. So, lets start on.

Fenugreek Seeds
[Source:asia.ru]
Yes, the methi or fenugreek seeds about which I talked almost when I started my blog. That was one remedy which helped my hair fall and I guess it did help in a little in improving the hair texture but since I am so lazy, I had discontinued the remedy. I guess its time to start again!!

Egg
As always, I swear by this remedy. Applying egg on my hair weekly has helped my hair a lot and if not in hair growth, it has definitely helped to keep my hair soft, silky and shiny and strong too. But, the downside of the remedy is the smell which even I can't bear so I have not used egg on my hair since quite long.

Yogurt
This was advised to me by one of my friends who was advised by an acquaintance. The said acquaintance used to douse her hair in yogurt everyday and wash it off (not shampoo but only plain water rinse) and used to shampoo her hair once a week. This was the routine in vacations but I do admit that she must have smelt bad!!! But, the remedy and the hard work paid off and her tresses were very beautiful and long.

Well, I did use the remedy and not quite in the same way but I used to keep curd / yogurt in my hair for 1-4 hours a stretch and wash it off with a shampoo. Over a period of time, my hair texture did improve a lot. And, here I am guessing, that it did improve my hair volume too. But, I am not quite sure on that count.

Onion Juice
This is something I swear by again and it is one of the top rated of my posts in all time. I know!!! And, yes, onion juice helps a lot in hair growth itself. But, yes, it gives a very foul smell which is why I get discouraged to use the remedy but the results are too obvious.

The reason why onion works is because of its richness in sulphur, one of the main minerals required for hair growth.  don't know if it will cover a bald spot but yes, it will definitely revive the hair follicles if they have been dormant too long. A very difficult remedy to use, though :(

Tomato
Again, one of my few first posts on the blog, it had helped to restore my sunburnt and extremely damaged hair to a decent condition. Tomato gives a lot of shine to the hair and also helps with dandruff as it is a little acidic but not as acidic as lemon to leave the hair entirely dry!!!

These are the remedies which have helped my hair a lot overtime.

What say?? :D

Tomato for Vitamin C {Tip of the Day}

Tomato is a versatile vegetable which can be used in any cuisine or for any beauty routine too whether as a hair pack or for brightening the face. Another great advantage of tomato is that it is extremely rich in Vitamin A and C. For daily need of Vitamin C, consume two medium-sized tomatoes.

Face pack for Blemished Skin {DIY}

Ingredients
  • Tomato juice
  • Sandalwood Powder
Method
Mix them both in a bowl and apply on face and neck. Regular usage would help in the brightening of the skin, removes the tan and also the blemishes and dark spots on the skin. This face pack can be used everyday too. Tomato juice is mild enough and doesn't cause photo-sensitivity like citrus fruits. Sandal wood helps with acne and pimples too and controls the oil production in the skin.
Results
A smooth fresh skin is revealed. It makes the skin supple and brightens the complexion. A good face pack to use before an outing.

Prevent Sunstroke with Onions and Lemon

I don't know how many of the people are aware of this age old remedy but it is quite popular. Onions are a great remedy to increase the resistance to sunstrokes internally. Yes, I know, you can't just keep on eating onions but try to eat as much as possible especially at night. And, yes, they hydrate the body also because of their high water content. So, chop up more onions :)

Another remedy is drinking a lot of lemon juice (exclude the sugar to avoid calories and salt to avoid puffiness). Yeah, it is damn bitter in taste but once you get used to it, it goes down easily. Oh, and you can use honey too.

And, here comes my favorite. This is for people who like their food a little tangy. Whenever you are eating onions, squeeze a lot of lemon juice on them. You can add a little bit salt or better yet, avoid salt altogether. Add some green chilli (don't go overboard; it will burn your stomach all day). Enjoy your meal with this twist. And, the main advantage of doing this is that lemon juice reduces the edgy taste of the onion and makes your breath smell less of onions.

Onion and green chillies make you sweat a lot so you can decide when to eat and when to skip. But, onions are abundant in sulphur which promotes hair growth and green chillies have a lot of vitamin C so don't skip them completely. Btw, don't forget to load up on tomatoes and spinach as they act as natural sunscreen from the inside.

Wear a scarf - Summer Hair Care

The summer sun is brilliantly hot and dehydrating for the hair as well as the skin. So, while you hydrate your skin by drinking water and eating hydrating foods, wear a scarf around your head whenever you step out to avoid the sun's rays and pollution. As the sun's rays can dehydrate and parch the skin, they can do the same to the hair leaving them rough and straw like. So, if you are already suffering from a rough and parched hair, try tomato on hair. And, don't forget to get a scarf for the next time you go out.

Now, generally, silk scarves or satin scarves are recommended for hair as they prevent static and keeps the hair hydrated as opposed to cotton which sucks the moisture out of the hair. As much as this is true, I beg to differ from this at least for summers. Using cotton scarves help with the air circulation in the hair which is extremely important otherwise the sweat clogs the hair follicles. Also, for people who like to tie the scarf completely on their faces, cotton scarves are much easier to handle and allow the skin to breathe through it where as silk or satin scarves simply choke and suffocate the nose. Of course, we all know that cotton allows breathing and air ventilation thats why it is preferred in summers. Also, if you use silk scarves, it can result in blocked pores and cause breakouts. So, wear cotton scarves. And, don't forget to moisturize your hair everyday with a hydrating serum or simply use aloevera gel straight from the plant.

Get rid of those Large Pores

So, as February draws to an end and already two months of the new year over, I would like to conclude my February with a post on getting rid of the large pores on your face.First of all, I would like to tell you that the size of the pores on your face also depend on your genes. Some people have by birth large pores and it can become very difficult for them to get rid of the size of the pores. And, large pores also give us an older look and not so smooth skin. And, the pores size of worst visible on the bridge of our nose. Here, I would be sharing with you certain home remedies to minimize the size of the pores on your face. These home remedies I am going to discuss are also anti-aging and skin firming masks.
  • The first mask is egg white and honey. Blend egg white with honey in a thick consistency. And, apply on your face. Wait till it dries up and wash off. Follow with a good moisturizer.
  • The second home remedy is to apply tomato juice on the face. We have already read about how tomato juice is helpful for hair. Now, lets learn about its importance to the face. It brings a glow to your face and also helps in reducing the pores size. A regular use will help a lot and show results in about a month.
  • Third is the usage of Clay Masks. We have already read about why the clay masks are so important. Now, it is time to use them to reduce the size of your pores and firm up your skin. They give toned look to your face.
So, gear up and go for a smooth and flawless skin. And, wish you and your family a very happy Holi.
