Get bouncy hair without hot tools {Reader's Tips}

This tip was submitted by Sindhu.
"My favo tip is about hair. I have naturally straight hair which makes it look flat sometimes. I don't get that instant bounce so whenever im done washing my hair, I air-dry my hair, apply little hair serum. When my hair is almost dry, I untangle it first and then flip my hair and comb it with a blow dry brush from my roots to the tips. I get an amazing bounce that I get asked if i got a haircut or blow- dried my hair. Trust me it works!!"

Facials from the fridge {Reader's Tips}

It always seems difficult to find time to make all these recipes to maintain yourself regularly. I found a shortcut to maintain my face - I usually create a base by grinding 1/2 cup oats and 1/2 cup milk powder and store it. Then depending on what I have in the fridge - I mix it in this powder base.

To tighten - mix egg whites and honey into 1 tsp powder base and apply on face, wash off after dry.
To moisturize - add avocado and almond oil into 1tsp powder base and apply - wash off after dry.
To absorb oil - mix egg whites and lemon juice into 1tsp powder base - apply, wash off after dry.
To tone and cleanse - mix yogurt and cucumber juice ( when you grate and press, juice can be extracted, no need to grind) in 1 tsp powder base and apply , rinse after dry.
If the paste is too tight I mix rose water or water to it. And the list goes on - anything you find like fresh fruits - I usually go to the ones that need no grinding or preparation. This really works - try it! As we don't find a lot of time as working moms with kids...anything easy works!!
Its an awesome tip, Padmaja. Thanks so much :)

Fenugreek Curd Hair Mask {Reader's Tip}

Thanks Sonal for the wonderful tip :)

"The curd- methi powder mask works wonders for hair! Take 2 tsp of methi powder in a bowl of curd. Apply it on hair, wear a shower cap and wait for 45 mins. Wash it properly with ample water, a little messy & sticky but good for hair. Instead of shampooing right after, apply oil and wash it off the next morning :)"

Papaya for skin complexion {Reader's Tip}

So, this tip was posted by Manoj. So, this is what he says:
Hi, I'm Manoj. I'm dark skinned. I have been trying some natural skin exfoliating things. From my experience, papaya is the best skin exfoliant. Here is what I did:
1) Take a papaya fruit and make its pulp.
2) Apply its directly on the skin about 1 cm thickness.
3) Leave it until it starts getting dry, which would take 20 to 30 minutes.
4) The result is instant.
Your skin will get more lighter .

I have tried lemon juice, curd, etc. and they are effective but they give results in 3 to 7 days where as papaya gives instant results.
Thanks a lot for the tip, Manoj. Papayas are really beneficial in skin care and the reason it works best is that it has high levels of Alpha Hydroxy Acids and so caution should be used in using Papaya - do not use it more than once a week because AHA's can cause photo-sensitivity and irritate the skin of applied in high concentrations.

Some Remedies for Dandruff {Reader's Tip}

This was posted by Ramesh very kindly as a comment but instead I am choosing to make it a post. This for people who are suffering from dandruff.
  • apply onion juice on the scalp 2 times a week
  • drinking 4-5 liters of water everyday
  • taking a balanced diet and not indulging in junk foods
  • taking biotin tablets
Well, drinking 4-5 liters of water everyday is something of a feat to achieve rather apart from the fact that it will make you feel bloated but I guess drinking more than adequate water (around 3-3.5 liters a day) would answer. A good start anyway!!! And, the difference, according to him, would be visible in 15 days.

How to make dull hair alive? {Reader's Tips}

This was published as a comment by one of the readers - jason@kolkatta.
Take an adequate amount of sugar in a bowl and dilute it with lime juice. Divide your hair in sections and apply the mixture on the strands of your hair section by section. Do not apply on the roots. Let it stay for 15 minutes. Wash with a mild shampoo. It makes your hair come alive. This is a very useful tip for people with dull hair.
What do you say?
