Rustic Art Algae Organic Bathing Soap {Product Review}

Rustic Art Algae Organic Bathing Soap at Perfect Skin Care for you
Price: Rs 155 for 100gms

Ingredients
Rustic Art Algae Organic Bathing Soap at Perfect Skin Care for you

Pros
just like all handmade soaps, gentle on skin and doesn't leave skin stretched
can be used easily on a baby as well
doesn't melt so easily and does last around a month with two usages per day

Cons
not as moisturizing as it says
expensive!!

My Experience
I totally love natural handmade soaps and love to try out various different ones so this one was on my radar since I got Rustic Art products for review. The usage of Algae made me curious to check it out. But, the soap is nothing in fancy in looks. In fact, its a dull dark brown in color and no fragrance at all.

As it says "an ultimate moisturizer", I thought it would leave my skin really soft and not very dry. It didn't leave my skin dry at all nor did my skin feel stretched even if I forgo the moisturizer but I do feel one needs to moisturize immediately afterwards. I felt as if the Algae did nothing extra!!

Ok, it will be unfair to say any product should be doing a double duty and moisturizing is a routine one must not forgo in any case. Surprisingly, the product didn't melt as soon as I feared it would. It did last me around a month of good usage. The best part of the product is it is organic but I do feel its expensive as well.

SOS Organics Wild Mint and Herb Garden Handmade Soaps {Product Review}

Wild Mint
Price: Rs 80 for 100gms

Ingredients
I know the print is totally illegible so I shall put it down here - coconut oil, vegetable oil, lye, peppermint, rosemary essential oil, nettle leaf powder
the swirls had nettle leaf powder on them so the soap was little scrubby as well but not harsh or even enough!!
Pros
this one feels really really cool, perfect for hot summers!!! In fact, whenever I used this soap, my skin was cold :D you would understand what I am saying if you know the peppermint coolness like you get when you eat Polo or any other mint!
wasn't very moisturizing but not drying either!

Cons
expensive coz it does melt away in 20 days for one person!!
would love to know what exactly is the vegetable oil they use!

Herb Garden
Price: Rs 80 for 100gms

Ingredients

Pros
after using the Wild Mint, this one didn't really make a mark!
decent soap with moisturizing properties!!

Cons
again expensive coz it melts super fast but there is a way to use handmade soaps and that should be followed stringently. Check the tip here (at the end of the post).

Availability
Natural Mantra (recently hiked their prices because of shipping costs but I do hope they bring them down soon!)
SOS Organics (you can order from their site directly but minimum order is 500 and no COD)

Interesting Fact: I would also love to bring to your attention the fact that the soaps sold by Earthy Goods are manufactured by SOS Organics only. Check out my reviews on their soaps as well :)

Soul Tree Travel Size Samples Preview

Before starting the post, I would like to state that this is just a preview post as I know many of you are waiting to hear my views on the Soul Tree shampoo. Also, these are only sample sizes which I have tried out so I am not doing a full review. So, let's start :)

Soul Tree Indian Rose with Cooling Vetiver Shower Gel
I totally liked it. It smells really nice in sort of a natural way. I don't think I really felt any cooling but it didn't leave my skin stretched or dry. The sample was small so I could get only 4-5 uses out of it. My dad also tried it once and said it was ok. Worth trying out!!

Soul Tree Triphala with Conditioning Henna Hair Repair Shampoo
I have a full size product of this so a detailed review will come sometime in first or second week of October. But, for now, I would say that it does leave the hair soft and shiny and doesn't let it frizz much. But, I think this shampoo is for oily or normal hair and not for dry.

Soul Tree Licorice, Shikakai & Bhringraj with nourishing Coconut oil Shampoo
This I thought would be more suitable for dry hair. But, otherwise, pretty much the same.

Now, a small point on both shampoos which I am not yet clear of - the triphala one didn't remove oil at all when I used it for the first time but the trick I found out eventually is that leave the shampoo on for 2 minutes and it cleanses really well. Since they do not have SLS/SLES, the product probably takes a little time to cleanse the oil (totally my theory!!). So, if you are a beauty who loves to oil her hair regularly, make sure you keep the shampoo on the hair for 2-3 minutes before washing off. And, don't worry, that doesn't dry out the hair at all :)

Rest of the details, you can ask in the comments section and I shall definitely try to put more detail and experience in my detailed review. This post has been put up only because I have finished up all the samples.

Forest Essentials Bath & Shower Oil Indian Rose Absolute {Product Review}

Price: Rs 340 for 50ml

Ingredients

Pros
smells blissful
very light oil just like the other one
fragrance lingers on the skin

Cons
expensive!!

My Experience
This is the other body oil I got from them. I am not a fan of Rose or Jasmine because they are not at all like the synthetic rose or jasmine smells which are too sweet and floral. The real rose and Jasmine smell Earthy and strong!! So, yes, it wasn't my fav at first.

But, like I said, it takes a little getting used to and now, I absolutely love the smell. I wasn't sure if these oils are worth their price. But, these few days dad was with me and I asked him to try it out and asked if it was worth it. He totally loved both of the oils and said they are amazing :)

Like the other body oil, this is also light and disappears easily into the skin but the fragrance stays with you almost all day long! And, it really is aromatic. I do have one doubt that whether this body oil is enough for moisturizing in winters or for extremely dry skin. But, yes, you can always layer it.

Absolutely recommended though I do know that it is expensive!! So, I would say save up and get one of this and I am sure you will become a fan :) So, have you used any Forest Essential body oil yet? Oh btw, do check out my post on how to use body oils in various ways too!!

Nivea Sun Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 PA++ {Product Review}

Price: Rs 299 for 125ml

Pros
gets absorbed really easily
no white cast
is non-sticky as it says
also, water resistant
doesn't get greasy!!

Cons
the ingredients are not stable so has to be reapplied every one to two hours without fail
less on UVA protection coz its just PA++ and not PA+++

My Experience
When I had started using this after its counterpart, I was very happy because of no white cast issues. Its of the same consistency but gets absorbed really easily and can be applied in any amount. It doesn't even get greasy and doesn't feel sticky which is one of the best features of the product.
This time, I took out time to analyze the ingredients. Check out the image but I noticed that they do not have any stabilizing agents. [Read about sunscreen ingredients here.] Because of which, I did notice tanning on my hands because I do not reapply the sunscreen (which is very important) and I do go out in the noons, at the peak times when sun's rays are strongest.

Why there was no tanning with the SPF 50 counterpart? Probably because spf 50 provides more protection and it left a white cast which prevented the sun's rays from directly hitting the skin. I didn't analyze the other's ingredients either so this is just hazarding a guess!!

PS: Product sent by brand.

Sexy @ Sixty {Book Review}

Overview of the Book

Sexy at Sixty. Is that possible? Namita Jain, the prestigious wellness expert, shows you how in Sexy @ Sixty, which is a celebration of this wondrous phase in your life. She aims to make it even more wonderful by giving you enough ammunition, in the form of many helpful tips on lifestyle, food, exercise and staying positive, to slay the bugbears that threaten to rain on your parade. Aimed at the modern not so young man or woman, the book is full of practical, easy to understand information:
  • Tables showing you the exact calorie count of your meals.
  • Illustrations for safe ways to exercise, whether by gentle stretches or strength training.
  • Chapters on how to tackle everything from skin care and weight gain to stress, arthritis and diabetes.
  • Easy to follow explanations for menopause or prostate issues.

My Review of the Book
To start off, I would like to say this is a book which will urgently make you go and exercise!! Yes, it really gives that feeling of urgency, written in a fun and very compelling way. I have never read any health books prior to this one and I beg ignorance about the author, Namita Jain, but apparently she is very famous and has authored quite a few books before this.

The book as the title suggests is aimed at middle-aged people. BUT, why am I suggesting this book is because an early start would only do you good. Namita talks about exercise and diet throughout the book and she outlines how the combination of two can protect your body from the numerous health risks which attack people above 30-35.
chapters covered
She covers all topics from menopause and prostrate to diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, heart issues, osteoperosis, arthritis, stress and also about Postures. I would have definitely loved if she had taken some of the topics in more detail but I think she meant the book to only be an introduction. The starting chapter of the book deals with the question that whether you are a couch potato or not?
which activity burns how many calories!
Can you climb up three flight of steps without gasping for breath? Do you sleep well? Do you wake up most mornings looking forward to the day? Do you go for a walk, visit the gym, play a sport or engage in some other energetic activity at least thrice a week? Do you eat wholesome, nutritious food? Do you relax and take time out without feeling stressed?
If you answered a 'yes' to most questions, it means you lead a fit life. And, if no, you need this book. Oh, I also forgot to mention that she provides some substitute recipes for high-calorie foods. Yes, the book did make me count the calories whenever I ate anything :( But, the author is very practical and realizes that today's lifestyle is different and mentions various things in a way which will sit well with our routine. For example,
If you are going for a party, take a light healthy snack before leaving. If you are dining out, order a clear soup and some salads to fill you up and prevent binging. If going for shopping, never go on empty-stomach. That makes you pick up cookies and indulgences which you would otherwise avoid.
calorie count of foods
And, that's really true!! Happens with me. She gives a lot of exercise tips and also illustrates various yogasanas which are easy for people of 35-50 to do. She also mentions what shouldn't be done. And, finally finishes off with chapters dealing with a well-balanced diet and colors on the plate and talks about surgeries like liposuction and tummy tucks and whether they are worth pursuing or not. The best part of the book is that it talks about weight loss being essential for health and not just looks. Many examples have also been given throughout the course of the book which makes it more relate-able.

Chocolate Sugar Body Scrub {DIY}

After a really long time, I resorted to some DIY and I have huge expired Cadbury cocoa powder jar. So, what can be a better way to use it all :) Enjoy the recipe and don't forget to try it out!!

Ingredients
Method
Mix them all in a container. Make sure that you use a steel one if you plan to use essential oils. Plastic can change the composition. Add honey at the end just when you are about to enter the shower otherwise the sugar would melt!! When you mix the ingredients, it becomes a chocolate mousse (a little thick in consistency) and smells all of chocolate. In fact, it was a waste for me to add the body oil as its smell got masked by that of the cocoa powder. But, I guess essential oil should be good. Give it a try!!

Results
Well exfoliated skin which smells delicious and is so soft and hydrated. If possible, after scrubbing, keep the mask on for 5-10 minutes. Definitely recommended for a home pampering session.

Tips on How to use Bath Oil? {Five Series}

Yes, as you can discern from the post title, I am starting a new series called the Five Series. I shall be covering all the topics as much as possible in which 5 points on the topic would be covered. You can send me the post requests too!! I shall try to keep these posts short and quick so that you can read them easily.

Massage and Moisturize
The regular use of oils is as a moisturizer. Aromatic bath oils are amazing for massages as they are extremely relaxing for the body and mind.

Aromatic Baths
This is my fav of all of the ways. I love to tip the bath oils into my bath water and add 5-20 drops depending on my mood and enjoy my bath. Yes, I smell amazing after that and can forgo moisturizing if I am feeling lazy. Great for hot baths as warm water releases the scent better (yes, a beauty sin!).

Facial Treat
Drop 5 drops in steaming hot water and steam your face. This relaxes your senses. Also, add it in your Pedicure and Manicure routines as well.

Perfume
Apply the bath oil on your pulse points and enjoy the aroma.

Hair leave-ins
Yes, these bath oils are generally light so you can take a drop or two in your palms, rub them together and pass them through your hair concentrating on the ends.

Weird outgrowth on my skin {Skin Care}

I went for waxing some time back like probably in March (not my latest one) and that time, something happened to my skin and I noticed some weird kind of outgrowth on my leg. It seemed to me like an outgrowth of dead cells but I am not exactly sure about it. And, frankly, it was looking too bad on my leg as if I have a disease or something. I asked the girl who attends me regularly and as usual, they are really clueless about anything. I don't understand why its not compulsory in India that only licensed aestheticians should be employed in big salons where they charge you like a bomb!!!

Anyways, coming back to the topic, I braved on and thought I would use Apple Cider Vinegar on the outgrowth!! I know I am crazy. But, thank God, it wasn't my face. So, remember never to get face waxing done!! So, I took a cotton and dipped it in ACV and tied it to the outgrowth with the help of a bandage. It stinged very slightly on the skin but I kept it on till my next bath. It does smell foul though, let me warn you. Anyway, the next day, I noticed a significant reduction in the outgrowth and by next day, the outgrowth kinda peeled off and was gone.

And, my legs are back in shape :) This whole recital was just an experience sharing and neither am I recommending it to you nor I advise it ever because you never know what you are suffering from. ACV is highly acidic and that is why it was able to get rid of what I believe were dead cells and don't ever try such things, especially on the face or delicate skin!!

Earthy Goods Vanilla Patchouli Indulging Handmade Soap {Product Review}

Price: Rs 95 for 100gms (approx.)

Ingredients

Pros
- smell is incredible and uplifting.
- moisturizing and doesn't leave the skin stretched.
- love that its a natural soap and has amazing ingredients.
- feels luxurious :)

Cons
- Palm Oil comes from Palm trees which are getting endangered.
- I don't know if the ingredients are organic.
- melts very soon :(
- the sandalwood powder on one face of the soap bar is very scratchy!!!

My Experience
I love their soaps. They are amazing, moisturizing and smell awesome while they last. My dad also fell in love with the soap. But, yes, one side of this soap has vanilla swirls which are topped with sandalwood powder or may be vanilla bean powder too (it felt like that to me). But, its pretty scratchy on the skin :(

Otherwise, I would recommend all the Earthy Goods soaps. You should definitely check them out!! I am in love with handmade soaps and am not gonna switch back to the commercially available ones anytime in the future now. Yes, the only problem with handmade soaps is that they melt very easily :(

More Gossip!!

Ok, so, I am in no position to do a post today so thought I shall just post a little more of gossip :D I hope you don't get bored of it. Actually, I am returning by tomorrow morning's train. Yeah, I know, its so tiring and flights are way too easy but then the cost as well adds up so I thought I would rather spend the remainder on clothes or shoes :D Worst thing that my wait list is not yet confirmed :( I am just hoping for the best otherwise I have Rajdhani to rely on or otherwise a flight!! UPDATE: I am going by flight and there goes my plan of shopping :(

Oh btw, I got Tresmode today, yay!!! Finally, I got peep-toe sandals of my size. Oh yes, footwear is a huge headache for me as I love only flats (my balance is too bad for even a one inch heel if its not a platform)!! And, my size is 3, can you imagine??? Sometimes, I have to shop from kids section!! And, most of the times, the salesman are staring at me that I have such small feet..I am like give me a break!!! So, I have got huge huge haul to share with you guys :) And, yes, I am gonna announce the Aloe Veda winners soon as well after I get confirmation from the PR people.

Btw, for all the would-be brides, I have an advise or a product recommendation as you would like to take it. Forest Essentials Bath & Shower Oils. Yeah, they have four fragrances - Tuberose or rose (not sure), Mashobra Honey and Vanilla, Sandalwood (I guess) and one more. And, all smell divine. I got Tuberose one and Mashobra Honey both. And, whenever I smell them, I die and go to heaven :D Yes, they are expensive with around 1000 bucks for 100ml. But, an absolute luxury. So, give your body a treat for your special days :) Chalo, see ya then from Hyderabad. Au Revoir.

Cons
- it doesn't do well on the moisturizing front but then it doesn't really leave the skin scaly dry either so its good for summers.

Rustic Art Spa and Lotus Organic Bathing Soaps {Product Review}

Rustic Art is a USDA certified Organic Brand. So, that thing got me excited and so, here comes my reviews of the two soaps. Btw, these are also real soaps. I had talked about difference between soap and beauty bars long ago. If you missed it, check it out here.

Price: Rs 155 for 100gms (both)

Ingredients
Spa Soap: Organic corn oil, Organic coconut oil, Organic castor oil, Organic neem oil, Olive oil, Caustic Lye, De-mineralized water, Oil extracts of wheat germ, Shea butter, Rice bran oil, Natural fragrances
Lotus Soap: Corn oil, Coconut oil, Castor oil, De-mineralized water, Caustic Lye, Pungama oil, Aloe vera, Essential oil of Lotus, fine fragrances of Lotus and Water flowers

Note: The cover says key ingredients instead of ingredients. And, also notice how one of the ingredient list includes organic word and the other misses it out. Btw, I got my confusion clarified and the key ingredients list is the entire list of ingredients.

Pros
- Spa smells really strong and Lotus is milder.
- Spa is very moisturizing and melts very very fast. The soap lasted me just 15 days!!!
- Lotus is also moisturizing but it doesn't really melt as fast as Spa soap.
- My skin doesn't feel stretched or dry after having bath but yes, a little moisturizer doesn't go amiss but one can always skip it. Even I do except for on weekends.
- The soaps do feel relaxing. I think its the smell :)
- I really like the cloth packaging.

Cons
- they melt too fast :(
- they are expensive too!!! But, to be frank, not as costly as Lush so that's fine!!

Overall Verdict
I really liked the soaps in spite of the cost and they have really different kind of soap ranges and I would really like to try the Algae soap. And, I am definitely curious about the brand and let me tell you a little about their aloevera gel. Its fantastic :) Detailed review coming soon!!

Availability

PS:Products sent by the brand. And, I didn't include the My Experience part as these are soaps and they don't really need to be explained on the usage part or anything and I think Pros and Cons really cover it all!!!

Top 5 DIY Ingredients for Brides {Bridal Files}

[Source: Google Images]
So, as I said that I would be doing some posts on bridal series, the first and foremost request is always how to brighten the complexion.I am listing down 5 of the ingredients which can help a bride achieve the most wanted glow.
  • Tomato: Rub a slice of tomato on your face and neck. Let the juice dry on the skin and wash off with cold water. Tomato is great for removing the skin tan and also suits all skin types a sit is comparatively less acidic than lemon. And, it also makes hair shiny.
  • Honey: A thick honey mask helps to keep the skin supple and moisturized always. It can be used every day too and helps with all skin types. Honey is also a great cleanser.
  • Almond Oil: As Punam commented on earlier post, dark circles and puffy eyes are a common occurrence when one spends their nights talking to the fiancĂ©es, almond oil comes to rescue. Apply almond oil on the eye area while going to bed. It helps with the dark circles and also with wrinkles which might be developing there.
  • Sugar: Sugar is the most amazing and cheapest scrub you can ever find and this is my most favorite DIY till date. Sugar has glycolic acid in some measure (depending on how much it has been been processed) and thus cleanses and exfoliates the skin thoroughly and makes it glow. And, you can add your favorite ingredients to it.
  • Spices: A mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves did wonders to my skin. It clears the skin and also helps deal with acne and pimples in the long run. It should be used on alternate days for best results.
These are some of my favorite DIY's with outstanding results so hope you will enjoy them :) And, do remember to treat your neck as part of your face otherwise it can betray your age!!

Sugar Body Scrub with a twist {DIY}

Ok, let me confess that making a DIY every week is really not easy for So, today's recipe is almost a copy of the sugar body polish which I have posted long back. I could think of nothing else and I have so many products to finish that it simply discourages me from whipping anything up. So, I have decided that next week I shall bring you a different series of DIY's which will include Essential Oils because currently, I am a lot into them.
Sugar + Multani Mitti
Ingredients
  • 3 table spoon sugar
  • 1 table spoon fuller's Earth or multani mitti
  • 1 table spoon rose petals powder
  • 1 tablespoon spices (mixture of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves)
  • Honey (as required)
  • Essential Oils (optional)
Rose petals
Method
Mix all the ingredients except EO and honey. Add honey and make a gooey paste. Add 1-2 drops of your favorite drops of EO's and, scrub and rub a dub :)
Results
Awesomely soft and instantly glowing skin. Moisturize well and sleep off to protect this glow and it will last you for days together. Do this once a week for a good scrubbing.
The rose petals provide luxury and spices provide a spicy edge to the scrub. And, you will like the smell too.

Hope you like it :)

Earthy Goods Forest Honey Nourishing Handmade Soap {Product Review}

Last week, I discussed with you the difference between a soap and a beauty bar. So, the speciality of this soap is that it is handmade and full of natural ingredients for real.

Price: Rs 95 for 100gms.

Ingredients

Pros
- moisturizes the skin and keeps it soft
- made up of natural ingredients

Cons
- melts very soon :(

My Experience
It is a really good awesome soap. It is moisturizing and doesn't let your skin dry. In winters, I went without a moisturizer after my bath both at night and in the day time and my skin didn't really feel stretched at all. So, in summers, its gonna be great!!! And, I can definitely say this is one of the few soaps I have loved completely and I do love the ingredients.

Ok, there is one problem - Palm Oil.  If you are not aware, palm trees are getting endangered due to their extensive deforestation so palm oil is being actually avoided in products and its substitutes are being used. Sometime back, Lush also started a "Save Palm Trees" campaign (something like that if I didn't get it right exactly). So, I would definitely appreciate that ingredient to be not used.

And, I also feel good that the company is trying to do a bit of good for the rural people. And, you should definitely check out all the things they have in their store.

Have you ever used a face wash as a body wash? {Your Opinion}

I just wanted to ask you all if you had ever used face wash in place of a body wash? I have definitely done so on many occasions, the most being during my travel. If I am going to my relatives place or some where else, I always carry my face wash and use it for my body as well. This serves to lighten my travel kit and spares me the necessity of debating on the best body wash which can be easily carried. Also, I feel that face washes are supposed to be milder than the body wash (need not be so in all cases, though) so they keep the body skin softer and do not dry out the body as some soaps and body washes tend to.

Lass Cosmetics Lavender & Ylang Ylang Soap {Product Review}

Lass Cosmetics product reviews at Perfect Skin Care for you
Price: Rs 65 for 125gms

Ingredients
Lass Cosmetics product reviews at Perfect Skin Care for you
Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Almond Oil, Cotton Seed Oil, Rose Water, Sugar, Aloe vera, Lavender Oil, Ylang Ylang Oil - its full of oils!!!

My Experience
This smells really lavender and ylang ylang have been mixed and it smells strong of that but it doesn't really hurt your nose. It fills the bathroom with its smell and it will instantly refresh and relax you. And, I am loving the ingredients. They are all natural and the soap doesn't really foam a lot but it does only when you have added hot water to it. In hard water, it doesn't lather well.

It cleanses the skin well and doesn't really leave it feeling stretched. And, I went without moisturizer for an entire day after using the soap in winters which is a thumbs up for a soap. Of course, you do need a moisturizer after using this, though. I will not recommend you to pass the moisturizer on though I do it many times because I am too lazy. I did like this soap and the best part is that the soap doesn't just melt off. It does stay on for a month if used by a single person.
