How long do you sleep? {Your Opinion}

So, again a fun time :) Yup, I know we are all lazy bums (except those who are really active all day long, kudos to you) who totally love sleeping!! So, what has been happening recently is that my sleeping time is getting stretched way beyond the permissible limits of 8 AM and I am getting late to work every day!!! No, I am not sleeping late either. I am going to bed by 11:45 PM at max. And, whenever I get up before 9 AM, I have a hang over and feel sleepy and tired everyday.

Generally, everyone's bodies have their own sleep requirements and need respective hours of sleep everyday. Mine is generally 8-9 hours a day and if I sleep later than 11, I tend to sleep more. If I sleep at 9 (sometimes I have to when I get headaches), I am awake by 2 AM which is extremely inconvinient. Also, I prefer not to sleep in the evenings coz it gives me really weird dreams and the night time is entirely screwed.

So, how long do you like to sleep? What's the minimum time your body needs to rest to wake up fresh?

Are you technology driven? {Health}

nah, I didn't really have that reaction :D
The changes in my home front recently have deprived me of internet since almost a week (at home). So, I was forced to live only on television which has very limited number of channels and even fewer were of my interest. So, technically, my time these many days has been technology free. No, I am not a phone addict at all. In fact, I hardly read messages!!

Since long, I have been trying to cultivate a life style which is less dependant on laptop and television and more on some productive work which keeps my mind chaos-free. I have observed that whenever I am alone and doing some work (any household work), I tend to keep the television on or run some movie on the laptop and as a consequence, my mind gets extremely chaotic. When I didn't have anything on my disposal, my mind was calm and in fact, I enjoyed the serenity a lot.

I read novels, in fact, literature and slept peacefully at the correct times and my sleep was comparatively lot deeper and undisturbed. Its just that for me, its more of compulsion of using something which is available on hand. When there was no internet, I didn't even have to think about the blog except for one thing that I couldn't post everyday!! But, I felt a lot relaxed as if I was on a holiday :D And, in fact, life was much less complex!!

So, what about you? Are you a laptop or BB or an iphone addict? Can you simply not survive if you are not connected all times? Or, do you depend on any gadgets too much that your life would seem worthless without it???

Why should you take proper sleep?

I have posted a lot about the benefits of taking proper sleep like beautiful skin and hair and weight loss. Now, scientists have found out more reasons for taking a prolonged undisturbed sleep.
  • It is important to sleep properly to have a long life. Fragmented sleep decreases our life.
  • Fragmented sleep is one of the reasons for heart problems. It raises the levels of bad fats in the body along with cholesterol and cortisol.
  • Fragmented sleep is one of the reasons of high blood pressure.
  • So, in all, fragmented sleep can be a lot dangerous to you. This applies for insomnia patients too.
  • Leaving all the health problems apart, fragmented sleep does not allow your brain to rest well or let your body functions get performed properly. Thus, you will feel tired and weak instead of feeling recharged after a good night sleep. So, always remember to take a proper nap for what ever length of time and help your body help you.

Sleep more to lose weight

Are you hooked to chewing your food yet? Here comes the next habit. I have already discussed this in a way. But, this time I would discuss this in context with weight loss.

Today's Habit: Proper Sleep is essential for weight loss.

Sleep is a very complex activity. We all know that. So, how does it contribute to weight loss? Sleep stabilizes the body functioning by releasing certain hormones. It relaxes the body and makes it function properly. So, not sleeping properly leads to hormonal problems.

There is a hormone which makes us feel hungry. It is Ghrelin. Studies show that people who have trouble getting proper sleep produce more of this hormone which in turn increases your cravings and you eat more than your body can handle. And, these cravings are more for the junk food. Did you ever feel that you want to eat junk food? I do, sometimes. Now, we know the reason.
Then, there is another hormone, Leptin, which sends signal to our brain when you should stop eating. When you do not sleep properly, these hormones are produced in less quantity and obviously, when you do not know when to stop eating, you would end up eating more.

So, now that you know that sleep can cause bad hormonal imbalances which lead to obesity, you should start taking proper sleep. Regular exercises aid proper sleep. Make sure you go to bed early and take deep sleep according to your body requirements.
