Beavigilant!
Simple ingredients, like milk or strawberries, are easy to identify, but in some cases, foods with more than one ingredient may be more difficult to judge. Here are some examples to watch out for:
- Syrup is common in drinks and pre-prepared foods
- Condiments, like mayonnaise or ketchup, contain vinegar usually extracted from corn or wheat
- Canned tuna may contain soy. Always look for 100% tuna.
- Rice cakes may have various grains. Always check the label.
- Baking powder may contain scorn starch
- Even breads marketed as gluten-free can contain oats or rye
