Tips and Tricks For Achieving Second-Day Hair

If you’re like most women, you probably don’t have time to wash, dry and style your hair every morning. But just because you’re pressed for time, doesn’t mean you have to look as if you just rolled out of bed and walked out the door. Instead of skipping your beauty routine completely, check out these time-saving hair tips that will refresh your hairstyle and give you great second-day hair.
1. Wrap - The best way to successfully achieve second-day hair is to prepare in advance. Most women know that wrapping your hair at night preserves your style, but you may not know which hair wraps work the best. As a rule of thumb, it’s always best to go with satin or silk. Not only are these materials gentle on your hair, they also retain moisture so your hair won’t dry out. If your hair is too long for a satin bonnet, try a silk scarf.
2. The Pineapple – If you have wavy or curly hair, pineappling your hair before bed is a guaranteed way to keep your waves and curls looking fresh. To create the pineapple: Turn your head upside down and allow all your hair to fall to the front. Gently finger-comb your hair and gather it at the top of your head. Use a ponytail holder to secure the hair into a high, loose ponytail.  Split the ponytail into two sections — half of the hair on one side, and half of the hair on the other side. Finally, place a satin or silk head wrap over your entire head. In the morning, remove the head wrap and ponytail holder; then spritz your hair, shake and go.
3. Twist-Out – Women with wavy or curly hair can also keep their style longer by twisting their hair every night before bed. Just separate your hair into about 8 to 10 sections and twist each section. In the morning, take down the twists and shake your hair out.
4. Faux Wash – If your hair is feeling a bit oily and limp, freshen it up and add a little volume by applying a liberal amount of dry shampoo to your scalp. Make sure to comb or brush your hair thoroughly so no residue is left behind.
5. Messy Pony - Make the most of bedhead by creating a sexy, tousled ponytail. Start by using a teasing comb to backcomb your hair at the roots and crown. Once you’ve achieved the volume and texture you desire, smooth your hair with your hands and gather it into a secure ponytail.
6. Hot Streak – If bedhead has left the crown of your head looking flat and unflattering, use a flat iron or large-barrel curling iron to revive yesterday’s hairstyle. Instead of straightening or curling your entire head, save time by just doing the top layer. The idea is to add a little volume and body to flat hair and smooth down those flyaways.
7. Quick Dry – If you want the look of freshly blown-out hair without the hassle, don’t waste time washing your hair. Grab a spray bottle filled with water and dampen your hair. Then, use a paddle brush and blow dryer with a concentrator nozzle to blow your hair dry. Within a few minutes you’ll have completely dry, blown-out hair.
8. Accessorize – Forget wearing a hat to hide second-day hair; play it up by wearing a headband. Braided headbands have been really popular for a while now, and are perfect for a sexy, yet mature look; especially when paired with an updo. A beautiful silk scarf can be worn as a headband to hide unkempt bangs or to distract from limp locks.
